Precision Approach Radar (PAR) Replacement Study

An Analysis of Options (AoO)

Responding to PMA 213’s requirement to field an interim solution in support of AN/FPN-63 PAR obsolescence and prior to the Joint Precision Approach Landing System (JPALS) arrival in 2025, a Voletude led Study IPT comprised of Air 4.2, 4.5 Air 4.10, SPAWAR personnel, and the Air Traffic Controller community derived the analytical baseline from the program requirements in the Systems Requirement Document (SRD), issued a RFI to industry and then comparatively analyzed Commercial off the Shelf (COTS), Non-Developmental Items (NDI) and Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) solutions for their programmatic and technical approach. This study empowered PMA 213 with the knowledge that a Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) would be the most cost effective government approach prior to JPALS arrival.
